Synopsis In the year 2220 A.D., the Earth Federation launches a plan to evacuate Earth when discovering that a traveling black hole capable of destroying anything in its path is on course towards the solar system. As the people on Earth prepare to relocate to planet Amarl, whose ruler offers refuge, the tyrants known as the “S.U.S. Empire” attack the first Earth evacuation fleet. After learning that his wife Capt. Yuki Mori-Kodai disappeared in the battle and that legendary space battleship Yamato has been fully rebuilt, Susumu Kodai accepts command of the ship as he intends to not only help humanity once again, but also find Yuki in the hope of helping his relationship with his daughter Miyuki, who puts the blame on him for her mother’s disappearance. But in order to fullfil the mission, the Yamato must go through battles against the SUS Empire, who intend to spoil humanity’s hopes of finding a new place to live in and turn Earth into energy for their own selfish needs. I’m on the same boat with Kamugin, i’ve had the raw for months, since it first appeared. I’ll probably download the whole thing in 720p but i would be tremendously thankful if you could post only the subs. Anyway, thanks for subbing this.

is this watchable as a standalone, i.e. without knowing the prequels?

Since this is 20 something years after the last film’s story, it can be watched as a standalone. But some references will go right over your head as this is filled with stuff directed to the fans. Still, i don’t think it spoils the film for non-fans.

Thank you so much for the sub file, asunder. The subs are excelent and it’s a pleasure to finaly be able to fully enjoy the movie.

There is one thing i’d like to point out. I’ve only watched the first 30 minutes of the film and there’s one thing that i’ve noticed. Earth is stated to be 30.000 light-years from the galactic core and Amare/Amarl at 27.000. That would make the journey from Earth to Amare about 3.000 light-years long. But it’s stated that the Emigration fleets where attacked “17.000 light-years” away, about “half-way” into their journey. Souldn’t that read 1.700 light-years?

Anyway, thanks again for the subs and your hardwork. Keep it up.

Earth to Galactic Center – 30k light years
Earth to Amarl – 27k light years (as noted by the 27, 000 in the screenshot)

About halfway would be 17k not 1.7k light years.

There are other technical mistakes on the part of the japanese but this is not one of them: (later on you see it takes 3 days to reach pluto…and a few min later it says it takes 3 days to reach earth….wtf D: )

OK, but the basic mistake remains, only the other way around. If, as stated on the screen-cap, Amarl is 27.000 light-years from Earth, then the 17.000 light-years near half-way point is correct. But i didn’t read the on-screen display, my comment arose from what is stated in the subs where it states Amarl “it’s 27.000 light-years away from THE GALACTIC CENTER”. Hence my claim that Amarl was only 3.000 light-years away. So either you translated the dialogue correctly and it’s a technical error or the sub is wrong. Of course if we use Occam’s razor the planet is probably both 27.000 light-year away from both Earth and the galactic center, since it seems to be elevated relative to the galactic plane. But being that in the Yamato-verse things mostly tend to be on a straight line one tends to take the quick approach. Anyway, the subs are brilliant. Thank you so much.

The planet could also have a different angular distance than Earth to the Galatic Center, thus explaining the distance. I. e. who said the Earth, the Amarl system, and the Galatic Center are all in a straight line? Even in a straight line the Amarl system could be in opposed side of the Galaxy and still be 27k light-yars away from the center, that could put it 57k light-yars away from Earth.

I don’t think that it’s too huge. In order to gain quality subs, you have to sacrifice something. But I hope it will fit on a single DVD.
