Hey guys,

Mappyman here of the #FightingMagic fansub team. I’m extremely happy to see this series get a proper sub after all these years. Mendisino and I tackled the first two episodes years ago with a decent translation. Our source was from the Satellite re-airings. The quality was great but it did have the ‘dim’ effect given whenever Jewel Monsters were defeated as a result of the Pokémon seizures. I hope this project goes to completion. With 8 Episodes in, I’m sure you will do fine. My site for our fansub is still up with the entire English script typed out if it provides any aid. Good luck adventures!

Excellent to be reading the Dragon Quest series will finally get a proper fansub! I am from the fansub group #FightingMagic. Mendinso and I subtitled the first two episodes back in 2007 and I still have my progress site up today in the link above. I typed out all of the dialogue for the English language version. Our source was the satellite re-airing of the episodes and while the quality was good, there were several monster jewel scenes ‘dimmed’ due to the Pokemon seizures that happened awhile back. Are you using the DVD releases? Feel free to use my site for anything needed. Best of luck finishing this amazing series up. Quest on, adventurers!

Thank you very much! I’ve been waiting over two decades for a translation of this series, and I’ve watched your previous translations, wondering and churning over when the next one will, if ever, be released. Thank you for continuing to work on this brilliant anime, which should’ve had an official release in English (sub or dub) by now.

If you guys haven’t figured it out yet, this project is basically over. Everyone thank ANBU for their awesome releases, then study some Japanese, import the DVDs, and sub this for me. XD

I wouldn’t say the project’s dead and buried just yet. Anbu is a pretty slow group, a three month delay is longer than usual but not completely beyond reason for them. :p Thanks for subbing Dragon Quest, Anbu crew, I’m enjoying the anime a lot.

I have a copy of the Dragon Warrior TV, either taped off of TV in 1989 or 1-2 generations off of tapes taped off TV in 1989. It is then converted to DVD using a DVD recorder.

This is considerably better quality than the version that’s already floating around the net.

I was wondering: would ANBU be interested in converting this to xvid and/or putting it on a tracker? Converting it to such (and editing out the commercials) is beyond my expertise.

There are copies of this floating around the net but they’re really terrible quality.
